The event, held on Monday 16 April at Christie’s in London, raised over £174,000 to ensure the charity’s continued support for people living with and affected by HIV in the UK.
Dinner with Poldark’s Aidan Turner at Pizarro in London, donated by chef Jose Pizarro, was one of the highlights of the auction, going under the hammer for £12,000 – a whopping £10,000 more than the estimate.
Gideon Mendel’s iconic photograph from The Ward series, taken 25 years ago of gay couple John and Michael on one of London’s first ever AIDS ward, sold for £3,500. It was a poignant reminder of all those lost too soon during the epidemic.
Other successful lots included pieces by the late Gillian Ayres, who sadly passed away last week, and artist and Terrence Higgins Trust supporter Andrew Salgado.
Celebrity guests included Nancy Dell’Olio, Emmerdale’s Gemma Oaten, anonymous conceptual artist Pandemonia, and Apprentice winner Michelle Dewberry. Dancer Wayne Sleep and fashion designer Daniel Lismore also took some time to catch up.
The charity’s online auction continues until Monday 23 April, with a range of incredible lots from renowned donors including the late Sir Howard Hodgkin, Mark Gatiss and Bryan Adams.
A painting of Russell Tovey in his underwear, from artist Christopher Garrington, has already excited lots of bidders and is set to raise over £6,000.
